ALIF/Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion
Anterior (supine) approach for interbody placement with posterior (prone) fixation with pedicle screws. Gives anterior access to the intervertebral discs without posterior muscle stripping with a direct approach of the anterior spine
METHOD: Vascular exposure with neurosurgical team implant, the patient is typically completely paralyzed which requires a baseline prior to incision. Complete paralytic reversal may be required to recruit tcMEP stimulation from lumbosacral muscles, verifying their integrity.
Stage 1 of the surgery is in the supine position (lying on back) with arms in a wide open position. There is little risk of of brachial plexus injury.
EMG, SEP, tcMEP, EMG, tEMG
