Evoked Potential uses the Atlas of Human Anatomy and Surgery by Jean-Baptiste Bourgery (1797-1849), with illustrations by Nicolas-Henri Jacob (1782–1871). Bourgery was a French physican and anatomist that lived from 1797 to 1849. Although the anatomical drawings are not official reference material, the painstaking detail and accuracy is absolutely remarkable. It illustrates the fine capabilities of the combination of both an artistic and scientific mind while capturing a renaissance moment of discovery.
The work illustrates descriptive anatomy, surgical anatomy and surgical techniques (exploring in detail nearly all the major operations that were performed during the first half of the 19th century). It is one of the most comprehensive and beautifully illustrated anatomical treaties every published. Bourgery's masterpiece was originally published in eight volumes and was completely republished by Taschen in 2005.

Mission Statement for The Evoked Potential/EP Blog

Our brain and nervous system are a delicate constellation of billions of neurons, faithfully installed in all humans and animals all over our planet. The future of our lives and the preciousness of our sensory experience depends on the functional integrity of our nervous systems. It is our emphatic belief that they are worth safeguarding whenever possible. We should be careful with our fragile bodies and minds and nourish and protect the existing people of this world and the new ones to come.

There are unfortunate circumstances that cannot be controlled; the falling off of a bicycle, getting into a motor vehicle accident, having your hearing damaged by being unprepared for an extremely loud sound, having a projectile enter your eye or smelling and inhaling noxious fumes. How can we use technology to prevent these situations and how do we push the limits of what can be done to minimize the potentially damaging effect of our environment on our precious lives and get the most out of our today's and tomorrows?

This blog will be dedicated to the protection of our sensory systems, promoting new ideas and new technology, culminating on how our nervous systems can be both protected and nourished so we can experience more positive tomorrows and getting the most out of our sensory experience in our world. We will strive to be focused on conservation and preservation of our incredible yet fragile nervous systems with a focused advocacy on the protection and education of our brain, spinal cord, peripheral muscles and sensory systems.
