Patient Evaluation
Basic material for evaluating a patient with a disorder affecting the nervous system. History and physical examination are intrinsically intertwined. Correlate the symptoms and their anatomical and physiological significance. Have a set of questions but may frequently need to ask more probing questions to discover all clues. A neurological examination is in search of a "lesion." Examination is an art unto itself.
An accurate history is crucial to elicit the potential information from the patient and or their family.
Types of pain: dull, aching, sharp, shooting, burning, tingling, its distribution, its duration (continuous, paroxysmal, repetitive) it's frequency, relation to the day, posture, movement, coughing, etc and to other symptoms.
